It's Official: 2nd Annual Octovember Baltimore Blogger Happy Hour
A little background...last year's Octovember hh was my first blogger happy hour ever. I eased my way into blogging: reading, then commenting, then attending the hh, then blogging at everyone's encouragement, especially Snay and Zenchick. Thanks guys! So, that must place me into the "third generation" of happy hour attendees/organizers. Wow.
As such, I was thinking we definitely need another "Octovember" Blogger Happy Hour. The last HH was in May! After soliciting input from most people who've been at the past three happy hours and 73 and counting 100+ emails later, we've confirmed a date...
What: The October/November AKA Octovember Blogger Happy Hour.
With: Your hosts! Me and Charissa.
Who: Baltimore Bloggers. Any Bloggers. Blog Readers. People Known By Acronyms on Other People's Blogs. Me and You and Everyone We Know.
Where: Holy Frijoles, 908 W. 36th St., Hampden
When: Friday, November 2nd, 6pm.
Why: Beers. Bloggers. More beers. More Bloggers. Margaritas. What’s not to love?
All right now, mark your calendars, post away and spread the happy hour love.
Questions? Concerns? Need strategies for deflecting Snay's "hugging machines"? Send me an email or comment. Looking forward to seeing you there!

wooohoo!
Charissa link broke!!!
:o)
jwer - linked fixed. sorry about that.
Damn, I want to be there, but I will be in Tennessee visiting my son. If that date changes on my end I will be there.
DD - :( We'll miss you, but have a great trip! We just need to have these happy hours more often, b/c if you miss one, it's months again!
Ooh, that's tempting. Not that I need a reason to enjoy a fine margarita on the rocks. Must see if I'm going to be in town.
The great thing about the "first generation" of happy hour attendees/organizers was that the planning and deciding of them was open to all and as transparent as possible. n00bs and old hands alike could make suggestions and offer input and a general public consensus would decide the particulars of a gathering.
It's a little disconcerting that these events, as infrequent as they may now be, are decided via e-mail exchanges by a select group of "ruling class" individuals who then turn around and act like these gatherings are for everyone when in fact they have a very distinct air of being for a certain group who aren't as open and welcoming as they wish to appear.
Having said that, I love Holy Frijoles and have been needing a reason to get back there. See y'all then. I can't wait!
I don’t find it practical to open up the planning discussion to every possible blogger that might want to come. While I could have posted a poll or something, too many voices could just be a mess and nothing might get decided. It’s a matter of efficiency not selectivity.
Your supposed “ruling class” didn’t decide the particulars. I did. I merely asked the people who had attended most recently, plus some others who I knew would be interested, which of a handful of dates might work best.
I want everyone to come. If I only wanted a certain group to come, I would have set up an Evite, not posted it. I showed up to the happy hour last year not knowing anyone and was completely welcomed. I anticipate there being the same warm welcome for anyone new and old who attends. I thought that went without saying, but apparently not.
Hey, SC's coming, cool. Heck, I'll even give him some money to buy a beer ('cuz otherwise, he'd probably think I'd spit in it or something).
Is it too sad to mention that the last time I went to Holy Frijoles a pipe broke in the ceiling and leaked water all over me? Hampden curse!
but if SC is coming, I'm not sure I want to now.
Also, wasn't the "ruling class" about 30 people? Seems a little too many to be "elitist" to me.
Alex - I hope you are in town. It'd be great to meet you.
Rachel - You need to come and have a fab time, so we can break your Hampden curse.
Summer - 20 people actually. I think it's pretty democratic if over the course of one year and three happy hours, one can go from not knowing anyone to getting absurdly called out as elitist.
Summer - I'd be really surprised if SC actually showed up. I think he's just saying he's going to show up in the hopes that people will stay home to avoid him. And if he does show up, he's not going to go around talking to people -- he'll sit at the bar, have a beer, leave.
Given that he hasn't come to one since 2004 or so, and takes some perverse pride both in not going to them, and in gratuitously insulting people on their own blogs, I don't know that he could be expected to be "consulted", but whatever.
That said, the old way of posting a "hey we should have a happy hour" post had the disadvantage of only reaching those people who read the blog of whoever posts it, so...
See, JWER? Repost the happy hour post on your own blog, and you're covered until November! :)
I think you may be underestimating my laziness.
hey, my birthday weekend! whee!
r0x and don't you turn on the red lite...
see y'all!
I'd love to, but poor little me will be off in England and Scotland!
Another day...
Roopa: There are worse reasons to miss a Happy Hour than a trip to the UK - I have to say I'm jealous! :D
Danielle: I am pretty sure I can come.
